By the way, does anyone want to post a working thesis here for us to discuss? It'll help everyone as you all think through your ideas. Plus, if I read it before Thursday, I'll give you feedback.

  1. Because Jimmy has been filled with tremendous amounts of emotional isolation and low self worth for past 36years, it’s awesome to see the hopefulness he shows, once he meets his dad, sister, and now a new female co-worker, for the first time.

  2. While Jimmy lived his first 36years without a father figure, no known siblings, and quite a bit of neglect,Jimmy Corrigan became isolated and develops low self esteem. Jimmy was doomed an American tragedy, until the age of 36 when his dad, reintroduced himself into Jimmy’s life. Jimmy then meets a sister he never knew he had. Finally, Jimmy decides to return to his bleak dreaded job and he immediately meets a new girl with similar issues, yet they appear to hit it off, really well. Hopefulness is in the air.

  3. Okay, you've got some good material to work with. Work on writing a concise thesis statement that focuses on ideas, not plot elements. Thus, instead of saying he's reintroduced to his dad, tell me what specifically about that experience provides hope for Jimmy--"he is able to aaccept who he is once he's connected to a previously unknown past and forgive the father that abandoned him."

  4. I intend to show how Jimmy Corrigan, the main character, can be considered an American tragedy but appears to show signs of hope in the end.
